The Black Balloon One-Shots by YellowGlue

(blinkie by RoseArcadia)

Now I Lay Me Down to Sleep and Saints Who Died as Children

Rated M; Edward and Bella, Angst/Hurt/Comfort

I will admit it. When it comes to fanfiction, I usually steer clear of the ‘questionable’ genres – Angst, Hurt/Comfort, and (worst of all) Tragedy.

(Yes, I am a total hypocrite when it comes to reading. Give me a good serving of fluffy smut any day.)

In this vein of thinking, you’d assume that I’d run as far away in the opposite direction from the Black Balloon contest entries as possible, and honestly, I would have – but for two things.

1) The fact I actually wrote an entry

2) The fact that YellowGlue wrote two entries

Many of you already know that I’m YellowGlue’s protégé. However, this review has nothing to you with blind love, and everything to do with utter masterpiece… the fact that both one-shots go hand and hand, and yet can still be read and relished alone, for one thing.

YellowGlue seamlessly weaves together the story of Edward, searching for his Bella, with angst that brings you to tears, and love that makes your heart ache. The fact that it actually does have kind of a happy ending doesn’t hurt either.

Read it – by the time you finish, I think you’ll see how both of this girl’s one-shots made it into the top 20. And please, don’t forget to go ahead and read the other wonderful entries as well – and remember to say where you came from!

Where Poppies Grow by LaSerenade

 AU/AH; Edward/Bella, rated M

You know, A Different Forest and Edwardville are totally underrated. You never know how much good stuff you’re missing until you post a rec thread, and someone’s e-mailing you back going, “Hey, I’ve got one!”

Still, though, you don’t really understand what they’re going on about until you have the story in front of you…and then you’re hooked.

For me, all it took was the summary: Bella is a British spy during World War II, acting as a rich man’s fiancé. She falls in love with Edward, but will she choose love over duty?

If that didn’t catch your attention, here’s part of the Prologue:

I arrived at the cathedral. My breath left my body in a whoosh as my eyes darted over the broken glass on the ground, the remains of beautiful stained-glass windows, and piles of rubble. There was a crowd gathering, gasping at what had happened to their beautiful church. I pushed past them, desperate to get inside.

I was held back at the door.

The man was shocked at my crazed wrestle to get past him. "Miss, no one is allowed to enter at this point—"

"I don't care! You don't understand, I have to find—"

I never did tell him who I had to find.

For at that moment, I saw the bodies.

LaSerenade creates an intriguing new Bella that is both unique and at the same time, still realistic. Of course, the idea of Edward sitting at a piano and playing his heart out to another man’s woman is just as intriguing.

So go ahead---click on the link, and don’t forget to leave LaSerenade some love and tell her where you’re coming from!

The Kübler Ross Model by jadedandboring

AU, AH, Edward/Bella; rated M

I wouldn’t have found this amazing story if it hadn’t been for one of the lovely ladies over at Edwardville. Though I have to admit that my writing has a lot of angst, I don’t usually go for angsty stories myself (hypocritical, no?). Yet, because of the insistence of the recommender, I decided to try out the first chapter.
jadedandboring is an amazing author. From the first paragraph, you find yourself sucked into the story. Bella has just lost her childhood sweetheart to cancer. When she meets Edward, there is an instant connection, but will she be willing to let go and let things happen?

Of course, Edward has his own issues---the most important being that he already has a girlfriend, Rosalie Hale, who isn’t on good terms with Bella.

As a psychology student myself, I have to attest to the way jadedandboring makes each character three-dimensional. Even Rosalie holds the readers’ attention, though it might not be with the same enthrallment you would hold Edward or Bella.

Check it out, remember to leave the lovely author herself a nice review---and be sure to mention where you found it!

The Kübler Ross Model is currently in the final round of the Indie Twific Awards; if you liked the story, vote for the author :)

And with Thee Fade Away by Derdriu oFaolain

AU, Edward/Bella; rated T

WouldYouLookatThat over on A Different Forest suggested this story at a campfire about small-time fics, so I went over to check it out.

After Renee is believed to have committed suicide under mysterious circumstances, Bella moves to Forks under Charlie’s guardianship. On her first day, she encounters Edward, an intolerable English jerk, and makes the mistake of taking a stand against him.

What our unfortunate heroine doesn’t know about her classmate is that he is a thousand-year-old ancient with a taste for hemoglobin. Will she and Edward be able to fall in love, or will he kill her first?

Be warned: this Edward is not the sweet shiny Volvo owner that tries to abstain from human blood at all costs. He’s seductive, snarky and lethal, but to me that just adds on to his appeal. One of the beautiful things about Fanfiction is being able to find different aspects of a character, and Derdriu oFaolain does this perfectly.

Try it out, leave a review, and remember to tell her where you’re coming from!

Introducing Amelie!

*Ta da!*

Ahem…yes…the latecomer has finally arrived. Since dear Jen has already introduced herself, I’m going to write down a quick little blurb about me :)

I was introduced to the Twilight Saga by an acquaintance, who eventually became one of my besties BECAUSE of the series, in summer 2008. She practically forced her own copy of the first book into my hands with an order to ‘read it, and fall in love’.

Within six months, I had finished all of the books (there was a bit of waiting period between each of the books, simply because of the fact that it’s a small-town library and everyone and his brother adores Twilight).

I had always been a writer, with an on-again off-again novel of my own that I hope will someday see the light of day, so making the leap to Fanfiction wasn’t really that much of a stretch.

One of the things I like most about the Twilight fandom (besides the addictive stories) is how it brings so many people together, merely because of one book series. I cannot imagine my life without the friends I’ve made, or my beloved readers that have given me so much support.

Of course, there are the stories too. That’s why, as a small-time fic author myself, I am so excited about this blog and being able to recommend stories to you that might not be as noticed in the eye of the fandom, but are amazing nonetheless.

If you’d like to take a look at my current full-length story, Wanted, or any of my drabbles or contest entries, check out my profiles or my LJ:
